The Renowned Musician Calls On Support to Propel Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The notable list of performers featured on Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the industry. All took part in the benefit event, which successfully generated a considerable total for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The single blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the region was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
