Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
