Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
